From a pat on the back to a hug from your partner, there is something magical about touch. Being social creatures, humans rely on touch to regulate their nervous systems and feel happy. For example, hugging releases oxytocin which in turn stimulates the release of dopamine and serotonin which are known as ‘feel-good’ hormones. These hormones decrease the levels of stress hormones thereby making you feel calmer and happier. You might even see your blood pressure drop!

Nonsexual touching has been found to increase happiness, lessen depression, reduce anxiety and even relieve physical pain.

Touching is a powerful tool used to communicate how we feel to those around us, and apart from helping us express ourselves, this touch can change your mood and feeling so why not find a friend and give them a hug!
