We are constantly hearing about how to manage and deal with stress however, there are also many things that people turn to during times of stress that are actually detrimental.

Stress is a normal human reaction that happens to everyone. In fact, the human body is designed to experience stress and react to it. Feeling stress actually helps us manage our response to situations, adjust and keep moving forward. However, there are times when stress can be extremely negative as well.

There are multiple stress management techniques, which you can read about on our blog. But before you do that, here are some techniques that are common yet detrimental to our well-being:

  • Turning to alcohol
  • Gambling
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Bingeine on alcohol, food, sex, shopping, etc.
  • Eating too much or too little
  • Drug use and abuse
  • Smoking
