Did you know that a panic attack can also feel like a heart attack? It can feel like you're doing to die and is an incredibly overwhelming experience. Unfortunately there is no clear understanding on what causes these attacks but know that lifestyle change, therpay and meditation are ways you can work toward reducing their frequency.

Here are some tips for if you feel you are going through a panic attack:

  • Don’t fight it. Accept that this is a passing feeling and will end soon but you need to go through it in order to come out the other side.
  • Try to stay where you are, don’t move around too much if you can avoid it. Find a quiet space to sit down or rest.
  • Breathe slowly and deeply through your nose. Try to regulate your breathing as much as possible because this is what will slow your heart rate down.
  • Focus on a positive, happy thought - keep this in your ‘back pocket’ for times where you start to feeling anxious
  • Continue to tell yourself that this is not life threatening, you will be completely fine after it’s over.

Have you ever had an attack? If so, what are some techniques you use to cope?
