Stimulating the vagus nerve is a way to reset your body, find deeper connection with yourself and also feel more centered and compassionate. Here are a few steps you can take to reset your vagus nerve.

Exercise 1

  • Lie on your back with your hands interwoven and supporting your head
  • Look to the right without turning your head
  • Wait till you yawn or swallow spontaneously
  • Then return to staring straight ahead
  • Repeat this on the other side

Something this simple stimulates the connection between your suboccipital muscles and your vagus nerve.

Exercise 2

  • Put one hand of your tummy and one on your chest
  • Breathe in and feel your stomach expand
  • Exhale and feel your stomach go back down

This belly breathing lowers your heart rate and blood pressure.

Exercise 3

  • Look to the right without turning your head
  • Tilt your head to the right and hold it there for 30 or 60 seconds
  • Turn your eyes to the left and then tilt your head to the left
  • Hold it there for 30 to 60 seconds
  • Return to a neutral state
